Frequently Asked Questions

Your Questions Answered

At RWPsychology, we understand that taking the first step towards psychological support can feel daunting. Therefore, we have answered some of the most common questions we receive, to help you feel informed and confident about accessing the right service for you and your family across our Milperra, Oran Park and Narellan locations.

Getting Started:

Your first session is a chance for your psychologist to get to know you. Together, you will explore your history, your current situation, and what you are hoping to achieve. Most of the first appointment focuses on gathering information and beginning to develop a personalised treatment plan. Many patients find that they feel a sense of relief simply from having that first conversation.

No, you do not need a referral to book an appointment. Anyone can access psychological services directly. However, a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP allows you to access Medicare rebates for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. As a result, this can significantly reduce your out-of-pocket costs. We recommend speaking with your GP if you would like to access this rebate.

Yes, absolutely. The relationship between a patient and their psychologist is one of the most important factors in a successful outcome. If a previous experience did not feel right, it may simply mean the approach or the person was not the right fit for you. All psychologists use different methods and therapeutic approaches. Therefore, we encourage you to share your previous experience at your first session so we can ensure we match you with the right person from the start.

These include anxiety, depression, behavioural issues, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, school-related difficulties, and social skills challenges. We welcome young patients across our Milperra, Oran Park and Narellan locations. Not all clinicians see children, as it is a special skillset, and the age of child is important also. We generally see children age 6yrs and up. This is of course dependent on the clinican and their training. Feel free to call us to discuss your needs if you are wanting to book in an appointment for your child.
